For anyone who may be wondering, I do not post any work of another author unless they ask me to do so, or give me permission after I request, so I am not violating anyone’s copyright. Off to another photo shoot this morning. Had a great visit yesterday with my former writing and always-friend. She is going to start writing again so we’re back in business with our sharing work. Hooray. I am so happy about that.

Fez’s poems are getting some likes and a readership. When he gets his internet installed at home, I should encourage him to set up his own website or Facebook page for his writing so he can have many followers by the time he publishes his book.

My pen’s heart needs CPR these days. Seems it is beating at a an extremely low rate and sometimes I fear it has stopped. Maybe a new thought or idea will be the defibrillator and get things going again. I hope so.

I’m working on a mystery short story right now. Working title is “Shattered Silence.” I thought if I posted here that I was working on it, I would feel obligated to finish it. I like the start to the story, but haven’t a clue where to take it. Ha.

I finally posted a new writing again. Fading Friendships is a poem written today about a special friend. Sadly, our lives take us in different directions these days so we see each other seldom and have even less in common to talk about. She is responsible for me taking up the craft of writing back in 2006 and I am so very grateful to her for that. We used to do a lot of writing, editing, and laughing together. Today, she no longer writes, but stays busy with her church work and doing good works. I miss her but grateful for the time we spent together.

Took a couple short hikes in two different Hernando County parks today to enjoy the fresh air and take some photos. A couple I took are above this post.

Another writer friend penned this and gave me permission to post it here. I think it is a classic and classy reminder.
When you review, treat the writer as if he or she were you. (Golden Rule, yes!) Praise with certainty and example, point out possibilities with kindness, and be sure that whatever you offer, it enriches the other.

My true story “A Life Well Loved” is published in the latest Chicken Soup for the Soul series “Hope and Miracles.” It will be released tomorrow, February 10th, 2015. I received my ten copies of the book a couple weeks ago. It is the story of the birth of my fifth and youngest child. Truly a miracle was associated with it.

Just wrote another one triggered by a writer friend. It’s called ‘Literary Terrorists’.
Ta-da. Wrote something for the first time in a few days. Back in the saddle. Hooray. Just posted a new short humorous essay called ‘Grow Your Own Food or Not’. Hope some of you will check it out.
Today I am returning to my own website to follow my pen’s heart. Too long gone, for sure. I am considering opening the site to public view, since I really have no desire to pursue more publication and I thoroughly enjoy the interaction with other writers. Just like travel, when you wander elsewhere with your writing, you enjoy it for awhile, but there’s no place like home.
Today we went to Hillsborough River State Park, hiked a few trails and enjoyed a picnic lunch together. It was perfect to have this time with my hubby again. I’ve been nailed to the Fan Story site reading and reviewing too long . Will be back here spending my time writing now. This certainly makes more sense for me.
I never did get anything written specifically for the writer’s group meeting today so took one I had been sprucing up prior to submission somewhere. We had an interesting exercise in replacing cliches with a fresher alternative in our writings.
I’ve changed things around a bit here on the website. I decided I’d rather have more room on the front page for stories and have a Blog page for snippets and information. I started writing about four years ago when I joined a writing group at the urging of a good friend. I developed the passion immediately but the group didn’t seem to be motivated to do much writing–just socializing. About a year and a half ago, I joined a short story writer’s group. Every week we were given a prompt for the next week’s story. Sometimes it was the title, a first line, or just a theme. The prompts really helped me get serious about writing and it was so much fun seeing how one prompt could bring so many different stories from the group members. I still write impassioned political diatribes and will post some here eventually. I didn’t want to post them early and lose all my readers. Ha. I enjoy writing humorous essays and some poetry. I have written an entire book of acrostic poetry and will start posting a few of those soon.
Something Old & Something New
Let’s get this blog started with a little basic information. I’m the “something old’ referred to in the title. Hopefully, I will be adding a few entertaining “something new” words to this blog on occasion. As a fledgling writer and amateur photographer, I always have plenty to say and lots to shoot (my camera and my mouth, that is). Sooooooooooo, check back often and see what’s new, what’s funny, what’s controversial, what should be in the New Yorker or the National Geographic or what needs to feel the assault of a sledgehammer on the delete button.
When I started this website, it was my intention to post photos that were somehow related to the stories. I am already bored poring through almost 16,000 photos I have taken over the past few years. Sooooooooo, I plan to randomly pick shots I like and post them for your review.
I appreciate those who have already visited the site to read my stories. I thank those who have taken the time to comment, also. I have many more stories to post since I have been writing for four years so stay tuned, okay? Criticism is welcome, too. That’s how I will learn what readers like and how to improve.
